  1. Realistic Fiction without technology it's just impossible at this time. A boy who is almost 13 living in this "perfect" world based only in a world balanced on rules it's must feel really hard for a 12 years old boy. But instead for a young boy must be amazing because is makes you realized how special is to be unique by analizing why everyone is the same in this utopic, no crime world. What really impressed me is the fact that she, the author, is completely aware of the revolving situations around her book and never stated what she did or if she interfere during this debates around her book.

  2. I am still wondering about how Lois Lowry went to create this utopian world from an interview she made to her parents who, as she said in a interview that was published on the School Library Journal (June 2007), were ill in a foster home. On the interview, she had mentioned that she created this futuristic world as she was drove away after interviewing her mother. I am thinking, what would be that story her mother told her for her to create this society, where people’s needs are basically all answered. On the other hand, I can understand the challenging reactions of American readers toward the book story line, because the pragmatism overview in which the American culture is based. Free will and liberty of expression are the bases of their Constitution and of their Popular Culture. Americans defend their Constitution and their basic Rights. One doesn’t need to be a rocket scientist to realize that Lois Lowry’s world challenges such idea and liberty of choices. (jriomaringles)

  3. In search to better answer my question (how did Lois Lowry went to create ‘The Giver’ after visiting her parents in foster home?), I came across George Orwell’s novel ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ (1949), which its considered to be a classic worldwide. The title is sometimes illustrated as: ‘1984’. This novel is both literary political fiction and science-fiction, similar to what turned out to be ‘The Giver’ (1993); -but heavier in political issues-. ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ is also a dystopian-fiction novel, but in this case it’s about a society ruled by an oligarchical dictatorship. After coming across this novel, I ask: Could it possible that Lois Lowry was initially influenced by this novel before she started writing ‘The Giver’? Could this subject matter be a trend that writers tend to follow? Perhaps!
